A man is in custody facing a murder charge after Chula Vista police say an alleged “landlord-tenant dispute” left a missing person dead on Sunday. According to a press release, Chula Vista Police Department responded to a welfare check around 1:51 p.m. in the 600 block of Via Curvada in Chula Vista, after someone reported their sister went missing after visiting their mother’s house. The person said their sister went to address a problem about a tenant their mother was renting to. The tenant was identified as 41-year-old Robert Watkins from Chula Vista. When officers went to the house, they located the missing person’s vehicle, but not the individual, according to authorities. But officials said that during that investigation, they found “evidence that someone had been badly injured.” “Watkins revealed to detectives that he murdered the missing person and had disposed of her body near the residence. However, he would not tell officers where her body could be found,” according to Chula Vista police. The victim’s body was then discovered at Paseo Del Rey Park after authorities said a witness “saw something suspicious in the bushes” and contacted police. The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of family members. Watkins was transported to San Diego County Jail and faces a first-degree murder charge. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday. This is an active investigation. CVPD asks anyone with information to contact San Diego Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. ...read more read less
