A man faces several charges after allegedly destroying the outdoor deck area of a Delaware bar, causing over $6,000 in damage. According to the Dewey Beach Police Department, on May 23, around 8:40 p.m., management for Woody’s Dewey Beach, located at 1904 Coastal Highway, contacted police afte r they discovered extensive damage to the restaurant’s outdoor deck area. During the investigation, police said officers reviewed surveillance footage showing a man, now identified as Joseph Hoyle, 23, of Middletown, Delaware, entering the business at around 2:30 a.m. Police investigators determined that Hoyle entered the deck area and caused significant damage by overturning tables, damaging furniture, and destroying an outdoor television valued at approximately $5,600. The total estimated damages amount to $6,140. Witnesses also told investigators they saw Hoyle on the deck area but believed he was an employee and did not observe any criminal activity due to the enclosed structure, police said. Police share that Hoyle was known to the Dewey Beach Police Department from an earlier, unrelated incident in which he had previously been contacted and released.
