Students at Fairfield High School walked out of class Thursday to protest how police responded to a fight on campus.  Viral video taken by students shows an officer hitting one student in the face multiple times. Now, Fairfield police have released their own video they say tells the full story. “The child was already down on the ground. He posed no threat. There was no reason for the excessive force,” said Nickie Williams, Fairfield High Parent. “I really think it’s unnecessary and super violent. You guys should protect us, but you guys are the ones beating on us,” said CJ Johnson, a senior. Students marched out of class to express their outrage, many calling on the police department to fire the officer. But on Thursday, the Fairfield Police Department released its own videos. The first video shows the student wrestling with a school staff member trying to break up a fight, while another video shows a police officer trying to detain the same teenager. The teen doesn’t comply and runs back into the crowd of brawling kids. A third video shows the officer finally escorting the student to the office. He is seen resisting. Police say the teen hit the officer and was acting aggressively that’s the officer used a take down maneuver to get the boy on the ground. The fourth video shows the boy with his hands over his face despite commands to put his hands behind his back. Police say the female officer administered distraction strikes to the boys’ hands to get him to comply and that indeed prompted him to finally place his hands behind his back. After the dust settled yesterday, the officer responded to some questions from students as they recorded her.
