A Dallas woman is calling for answers after she says a bullet pierced through her windshield while she was driving on Interstate 35 on Mother’s Day. Sabah Mooswi said she was driving in Dallas when the bullet shattered her windshield and traveled through the vehicle. Photos she shared show damage to the windshield and what she says was a bullet hole in the back seat of her car. Mooswi said her son was not sitting in the seat where the bullet traveled. “By the mercy of God, my son was not in that seat when the bullet came through my window and if he had been there, I truly believe that I would have been burying my child right now,” Mooswi said. Dallas police said the case remains under investigation and is currently being handled as a deadly conduct case. Mooswi said she later found a bullet in the trunk of her car and hopes Dallas police will test it for ballistics evidence. She said she is speaking publicly not for sympathy, but because of how serious the incident could have been. “I am not standing here today because I want people’s sympathy. I am standing here because I survived something that could have taken my life or worse my child’s life,” Mooswi said. Her calls for a closer look at the case come as members of the Muslim community say they are seeing an increase in anti-Muslim rhetoric. Dallas police said there is not enough evidence at this time to investigate the incident as a hate crime. Mooswi, however, said she believes she was targeted because she was wearing a hijab. She also had a message for the person responsible: “To the person who attempted to take my life and my child, if you are watching this, know that you are a coward.” This story was originally reported for broadcast by NBC DFW.
