A record number of Americans are expected to travel over the Memorial Day weekend despite higher fuel prices, according to AAA. AAA estimates nearly 6 million people will travel to and within California between Thursday and Monday, making it one of the busiest Memorial Day travel periods on recor d. San Francisco ranked as the sixth most popular destination in the United States, AAA said. Most travelers are expected to drive at least 50 miles from home, even though gas prices are more than $1 higher on average than they were at this time last year.
