Park City Municipal and the Public Art Advisory Board will host a community ribbon cutting from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Creekside Park to unveil a new artistic shade structure. Artist Mark Rane designed the piece, which the city said combines functional shade with public art adjacent to th e park’s bike jumps and the McLeod Creek Trail. Rane is originally from St. George and has galleries in Salt Lake City.   Drawing on the bicycle’s iconic form and its ability to bring people together, his design aims to turn familiar bike elements into a gathering spot. Rane said he built the structure from weathering steel for durability.  The project took more than a year for planning, artist coordination, fabrication and installation, the city said.
