The Wasatch County Health Department has confirmed two positive measles cases in the area with exposures at Old Mill Elementary School and Timpanogos Middle School.  Exposures at Old Mill Elementary School may have occurred in the third grade during the school day on May 15. Exposures at Timpan ogos Middle School may have occurred school-wide on May 14 and 15.  Both children with positive measles cases are unvaccinated. Since November 2025, there have been 11 confirmed cases of measles in Wasatch County. The Health Department recommends that anyone who has not received the MMR measles vaccination should stay home for 21 days — the incubation period of the virus — to keep themselves and others safe from exposure.  Lana North of the Wasatch County Health Department said, in this case, that means staying home for the remainder of the school year.  “(Timpanogos Middle School) was a school-wide exposure, so anyone unvaccinated that was at Timpanogos on May 14 or 15, we would just recommend that they stay home if they were unvaccinated,” North said.  That’s even if there are no symptoms. North said it’s a necessary precaution.  Measles symptoms typically begin within two to five days. A rash, usually starting on the forehead, is likely. Other symptoms include a high fever, a cough, a runny nose or watery eyes.  Those who have been given two documented doses of the measles vaccine have a low chance of getting the disease. However, the Health Department still recommends a vigilant watch for symptoms that may start within one to three weeks.  Individuals who are at high risk, including those who are immunocompromised or pregnant, should reach out to their healthcare provider for additional information and recommendations.  People unsure of their vaccination status can check the Utah Immunization website at docket.care or the Docket mobile app. North also recommends visiting the Health Department if additional assistance is needed.
