DENVER — The Rangers hoped that shortstop Corey Seager’s back spasms would pass after a weekend off his feet. Instead, they’ll be without him for at least the remainder of this road trip. The Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation prior to Monday’s series opener against the Colorado Rockies and recalled outfielder Michael Helman from Triple-A Round Rock in his place. Seager, whose designation is retroactive to May 15, was given Friday’s series opener against the Houston Astros off as a scheduled rest day before he reported the injury and returned to Arlington for further examination. Rangers president Chris Young said Monday on 105.3 “The Fan” (KRLD-FM) that Seager could return by the start of next week’s homestand. This is the seventh time in four-plus seasons with the Rangers that Seager has been placed on the injured list and the first time he’s been sidelined due to a back injury. “A back is tricky,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said. “I’m not going to push this thing where we’re going to miss a significant amount of time.” Read more from our media partner, The Dallas Morning News. Monday night, starting pitcher Mackenzie Gore gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in a 28-pitch first inning before he was pulled from his start in Colorado.
