Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, on Monday, unveiled an Election Day Task Force that his office has tasked with ensuring the primary elections on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Philadelphia, are free and fair. And, in discussing the work the task force will be doing during an event on Mo nday, Krasner took a moment to tout the ongoing decreases in violent crime that the city has seen so far this year. According to Philadelphia Police Department statistics, the city has seen 48 homicides so far in 2026. Last year, at this same point, there were 80 homicides across the city. On Monday, Krasner said if this drop in violent crime continues, Philly could see statistics at levels that the City of Brotherly Love hasn’t seen since the 1960s. “You are actually safer walking down the street than you were 10 years ago. You’re actually safer going to the polls tomorrow, sunny day or not, than you were 10 years ago,” Krasner said. “And, that’s important because it should make you feel comfortable voting but it’s also important because, your vote affects this, your vote determines where money goes.” Krasner noted he was not suggesting voters support any specific candidate, but said, in order to continue making an impact on crime, his offices — like the gun violence task force — need financial support from elected officials. As for the task force, Krasner said that members of the team will be working throughout the day on Tuesday to monitor poll places throughout the city to ensure there are no issues impacting the right to vote for any Philadelphia resident — no matter how they intend to vote. “We are not going to tolerate anyone interfering with a Philadelphian’s right to vote,” said Krasner. How to report issues on Election Day Voters who encounter any irregularities at their polling location can call the DAO Election Task Force hotline: 215–686–9641.
