One of San Francisco’s most iconic events returns this weekend; thousands of people will either run, jog or walk across the city on Sunday for Bay to Breakers. On the eve of Bay to Breakers, participants gathered at the western side of San Francisco to pick up their bibs. For more than a cen tury, the annual race took participants from one end of San Francisco to the other for a total of 7 and a half miles of fun. Sunday’s race will start on The Embarcadero, where some street closures are already in place. This time, firefighters encouraged people to stay out of the water. “Some of these 8 to 10 foot waves that are going to be pushing up on the beach, in addition that we have our strong rip currents, and we have those sneaker waves as well. It’s warming up in the city we’re encouraging people to stay out of the water,” said Samuel Menchaca, SFFD PIO. ...read more read less
