A memorial was put together at Ripon College Tuesday morning near the pool where senior Mary Elliott competed, worked and practiced as part of the swim and dive team. Elliot died Saturday in a motorcycle crash in Kewaunee County .Ripon College President, Victoria Folse, says the community has a long road of healing ahead of them."Our campus community has come together to celebrate her life, at a time of graduation. When it should be a week of celebration."President Folse adds that Elliott's loss will be felt beyond the campus community."Mary was a favorite life guard for many of the members who used our pool. Ripon College remembers student killed in Kewaunee County crashElliott's swim and dive coach, Grace Carlson, provided a statement that reads:"Mary Elliott was one of the most supportive and selfless teammates Ive ever had the honor of coaching. She lifted up everyone around her with her kindness, encouragement, and unwavering team spirit, and her impact on this team will be felt forever."President Folse says Elliott's memorial will remain up throughout the week for the community to pay respects. She adds that campus counseling services are available and students can schedule an appointment by emailing [email protected] Elliott's boyfriend, Jesse Morales Hernandez, was the driver of the motorcycle that crashed and also did not survive. His funeral will be held on May 30.The crash remains under investigation by the Kewaunee County Sheriffs Department, with support from the Wisconsin State Patrol Accident Reconstruction Team. ...read more read less
