(KRON) -- A domestic violence victim who was being held against her will by a man armed with a gun at a Vacaville apartment was rescued by authorities early Monday morning, according to the Vacaville Police Department. The suspect, identified as Jeff Hawkins, 59, of Oakland, barricaded himself insid e the residence amid the hours-long standoff. A police SWAT team responded around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday to the apartment in the 100 block of Del Rio Court. Hawkins refused commands to surrender, authorities said, and fired at least two gunshots from within the home. No one was struck by the gunfire, Vacaville police said. Nearby residents were sheltered in place or evacuated amid the ongoing standoff. (Vacaville Police Department) While Hawkins was barricaded inside a different room from the female victim, police and fire department personnel deployed a ladder to the second story to rescue her in the early morning hours. Hawkins exited the apartment around 7:30 a.m. Monday but continued to resist officers attempting to arrest him, according to police. He was ultimately taken into custody after a K-9 was used. One Vacaville PD officer suffered a minor injury during the incident.
