A Heber City Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, May 12, will be held at 6 p.m. to discuss the rezoning of the city property between Center Street and 200 S at approximately 600 E Heber.  The proposal to rezone residential property will allow for a 65 foot 5G cell tower to be installed within as little as 175 feet from established residential homes. Citizens concerned about residential rezoning and placement of 5G cell towers in established homes and neighborhoods and who are concerned about the devaluation of home sale prices should show up to this meeting to allow their voices to be heard. Our home, along with many others are as little as 175 feet away from the proposed 65-foot cell tower. The current residential zoned city property must be rezoned to allow for the proposed height of the cell tower. If this land is rezoned to allow these structures, we will not only end up with a huge eyesore, but according to national studies our property values stand to depreciate between 10%-20%, which at current market property values in our community can be a financial loss between $100,000-$250,000 in home equity. Studies also state that 75% of realtors say that prospective home buyers will not even look at homes near cell towers. In our case, we have lived in this valley for 30 years. We are semi-retired and need to downsize our home now that our children are grown. The 10%-20% loss in property value and home equity that we have worked so very hard to accumulate over a lifetime will severely impact our retirement portfolio and our financial well-being.
