Varieties of two popular brands of potato chips are facing a recall due to possible salmonella contamination, according to the FDA. Utz issued a recall Monday for certain varieties of Zapp’s and Dirty potato chip brands after a seasoning that contained dry milk powder may have contained salmone lla, a release from the company stated. The seasoning batches that were affected had tested negative for salmonella before being used with the chips, but Utz issued the recall out of an abundance of caution following the ingredient supplier recall. Here is a list of the Zapp’s and Dirty chips impacted by the recall: Zapp’s: Bayou Blackened Ranch (UPC: 83791272917); 1.5oz, 2.5oz and 8oz bags Salt and Vinegar (UPC: 83791010144); 1.5oz bags Big Cheezy (UPC: 83791192208); 2.5oz and 8oz bags Dirty: Salt and Vinegar (UPC: 83791520148); 2oz bags Maui Onion (UPC: 83791520162); 2oz bags Sour Cream and Onion (UPC: 83791520094); 2oz bags No other Utz products were impacted by the recall, and the recall is limited exclusively to the products listed above. The products are sold at stores nationwide. There had been no reported illnesses in connection to the recall, the FDA said. What is Salmonella? Salmonella is an organism that cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, an infection with Salmonella can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis, the FDA said. ...read more read less
