3 dead, others badly hurt as NYC apartment building fire leaves dozens homeless

Three people are dead, others seriously hurt, and dozens are homeless after a fire tore through an apartment building in Manhattan overnight, authorities said Monday.
Firefighters were called shortly after midnight to the scene on Dyckman Street, between Vermilyea Avenue and Broadway in Inwood, f
or a reported fire on the second floor of a six-story building.
More than 200 fire and EMS personnel responded.
Three people were found dead at the scene. Another five were taken to a hospital in severe condition, according to the FDNY. Four others with injuries described as moderate to minor were taken to hospitals as well.
A firefighter was also said to have suffered minor injuries.
None of the victims has been identified.
Dozens of families had to leave their homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
