OKC celebrates Bike Month with rides, resources and community events
May 03, 2026
Oklahoma City is inviting residents to get on two wheels this May as part of National Bike Month, offering a mix of community rides, educational opportunities and commuter-friendly events.
City officials say the monthlong celebration is designed to highlight OKC’s growing network of bike lanes
and trails while encouraging riders of all experience levels to participate.
“May is the perfect time for our community to get out and explore the city’s network of bike lanes and trails,” said OKC Transportation Planner Justin Henry. “Whether you’re commuting, heading to a lake or exploring a commercial district, cycling has never been more accessible.”
Bike to Work Day set for May 15
One of the month’s signature events, Bike to Work Day, takes place Friday, May 15, with cyclists invited to gather at Bicentennial Park, 201 N. Walker Ave., from 7:45 to 9 a.m.
Participants can enjoy free coffee and complimentary bike inspections while connecting with other riders. Cyclists can ride independently or join organized group rides departing from locations across the city, including Capitol Hill, Lake Hefner, Mesta Park and Lincoln Park.
The annual event promotes biking as a practical transportation option while offering a welcoming entry point for new riders. Visit bikemonthok.org.
Expanding trail system
Oklahoma City’s trail system now spans roughly 100 miles of trails with more than a dozen paved routes and additional off-road trails. Much of the system is interconnected, allowing cyclists to travel across multiple parts of the city without leaving designated paths.
Safety remains a priority
City officials emphasize that safety is a shared responsibility among drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Riders are encouraged to follow traffic laws and stay alert while navigating streets and trails. Visit the City’s bike lane safety page.
Additional safety resources and tips are available through the City’s bike lane safety initiatives and public awareness campaigns.
Planning for the future
Bike Month also highlights the city’s long-term investment in active transportation. The BikeWalkOKC plan outlines continued expansion of bike lanes, trails, routes and sidewalks aimed at improving accessibility and connectivity citywide.
