Top of Main Brew Pub, an anchor on Main Street for 37 years, closes
May 01, 2026
The Top of Main Brew Pub on Main Street has permanently closed, ending a 37-year run as an anchor of the southern end of the shopping, dining and entertainment strip.
It had been branded as the Wasatch Brew Pub for most of the time, later taking on the Top of Main Brew Pub moniker.
Greg Schir
f, the founder of Schirf Brewing Company, opened the Wasatch Brew Pub in 1989. Schirf sold Wasatch Brewery to an investment group a decade ago but retained the building where the Brew Pub was located. He recently reached an agreement to sell that building to a group from New York. Summit County property records did not reflect the transaction as of late in the week. Top of Main is no longer the tenant, according to Schirf.
The Wasatch Brew Pub was a notable arrival on Main Street as the boom years of the 1990s approached. It served, in some ways, as one of the cornerstone businesses on the street over the decades and has long played a role in the tourism industry’s efforts to dispel the notion that alcohol is not widely available in Utah.
The parking lot owned by the Park City municipal government next to the building, meanwhile, became known as the Brew Pub lot with a close association between the building and parking, even with one being in the private sector and the other publicly owned. The Wasatch Brew Pub was also a popular choice for holiday parties with space for private gatherings alongside the main dining room.
“It was fun. We had a lot of great employees over the years. A lot of great parties, memories,” Schirf said.

He said the brew pub brought “a little life, a little zest” to upper Main Street.
The loss of Wasatch Brew Pub followed soon after the permanent closure of Main Street Pizza Noodle. That restaurant dated to 1990 and closed in early April. The owner noted the rising commercial lease rates on Main Street over the years. The two places were among the largest restaurant spaces in the Main Street core.
The Top of Main Brew Pub had a wide-ranging menu that attempted to cater to the broad customer base of Parkites and visitors.
Jambalaya and bison burgers were on the menu along with options like curry, tacos and fish and chips. The menu, which remained posted online late in the week, also included a variety of beers. Some of the beers had names associated with Park City.
“It will be missed. They’re definitely a fixture on the street,” said Monty Coates, the president of the board of directors of the Historic Park City Alliance. “It was built to be the anchor on the top of the street.”
Coates said the Top of Main Brew Pub and the earlier iteration filled a mid-priced niche on Main Street among a series of fine-dining options. He also said the restaurant had a larger space than some of the others on Main Street.
