(KRON) -- A lost dog in the North Bay had been treading water deep inside a well for at least two hours before she was found by an animal control officer who could hear her distressed cries, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control said. Animal Control Services Officer Bradley responded Monday to an uninhabited home in Vallejo after receiving a report about a dog that may have fallen into a well inside. Shortly after, animal control received another call from dog owners frantically searching for their missing Fiona. Bradley could hear yelping near the home but was unable to find the dog outside, according to animal control. Sheriff’s office deputies assisted in making entry into the home under urgent welfare concerns. The dog was found trapped and treading water inside a cistern several feet below ground. Vallejo Fire Department firefighters arrived at the home and used specialized equipment to pull Fiona, now cold and extremely tired, up from the water. “Fiona, determined and exhausted, did everything she could to help—holding onto a loop with her teeth and trying to push herself up,” officials said. “It’s estimated she had been treading water for at least two hours.” (Photo: Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control)(Photo: Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control)(Photo: Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control) Fiona was treated by a veterinarian for abrasions suffered in the harrowing incident and is recovering at home. ...read more read less
