The Baton Rouge-based company said April 30 that the regional payout is part of a broader $90 million dividend being shared among about 18,500 policyholder businesses across Louisiana. The funds are being issued as checks to participating employers and are intended to support reinvestment in operations, safety improvements and other business needs. LWCC operates as a private mutual workers’ compensation insurer, meaning policyholders are also members who share in the company’s financial performance. According to the company, about 95% of its customers are small businesses. “Our purpose is to help Louisiana thrive. Distributing these funds to our policyholder members is one of the most meaningful ways LWCC brings that purpose to life,” said Kristin W. Wall, president and chief executive officer of LWCC. “While dividends are not guaranteed, we have been able to distribute one for 23 consecutive years. These funds help member businesses invest in their employees, strengthen their operations, and continue building safer workplaces across our state.” LWCC said that since the dividend program began, it has returned a total of $1.6 billion to Louisiana policyholders. New Orleans business owner Simone Bruni, president of Demo Diva, said her company uses the payments to offset operating costs. “We always reinvest the dividend back into our operations, using it to help cover operating expenses, including rising costs of goods and supplies,” Bruni said. “LWCC provides practical guidance and support that goes beyond coverage. They are more than a safety net. They are a true partner in our operation.” The insurer said the dividend program is designed to reward policyholders while also encouraging workplace safety and injury prevention. LWCC also provides support services aimed at helping injured workers return to employment. The company said its mission is focused on improving workplace safety and supporting businesses and workers across Louisiana.
