A wild video shows a passenger screaming at crew and passengers onboard a Delta plane before attempting to open the cabin door after the flight was delayed on the tarmac. The disturbance occurred Monday aboard a Delta flight that was on the taxiway in Atlanta, Georgia, according to the airline. T he Chicago-bound flight was delayed because of a ground stop at O’Hare Airport due to severe thunderstorms. However, when another delay was announced, the passenger became unruly and demanded to be allowed off the plane. Video shared on social media showed the man yelling into a phone on the plane. “How long has it been delayed already? Three, four hours, and now you’re talking another hour?” the passenger said. “Get me to the gate, I want off. Or I’ll take myself off,” the man yelled before reaching for the emergency door and attempting to open it as crew members tried to intervene. The passenger was able to partially open the door, but the slide did not deploy, according to Delta Air Lines. In air traffic control audio obtained by the radio app ATC.com, the captain can be heard advising the plane would be returning to the gate and requesting police assistance. “We have a situation with a passenger, uh, it’s not gonna be pretty, I don’t know which gate we’re gonna go back to, I have our ops checking that out for us to try and arrange a gate for us, but, uh, if you, once we get that gate settled can you also have security there for us, police on site?” the captain said. The plane, which had 168 passengers onboard, returned to the gate where law enforcement was waiting to remove the unruly passenger. No injuries were reported. “The safety of our customers and crew comes before all else, and Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior. We apologize to our customers on this flight for the delay in their travels,” Delta said in a statement. The flight was able to depart for Chicago later that night after maintenance inspected the door of the plane.
