The Park City emergency program manager departed the municipal government late in 2025, and officials have not yet named a permanent successor. Mike McComb left in November for a post in the private sector. He had been the emergency program manager since the spring of 2018 and was the second-eve r person to hold the position for Park City. He had also been an officer with the Park City Police Department. McComb, who grew up in Park City, said on Tuesday “he was extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve the community I grew up in.” He spent his youth in Park Meadows, and was a student in the Marsac Building when it served as a schoolhouse and went to middle school in the building that is now the Park City Library. As the emergency program manager, McComb held wide-ranging duties for the municipal government. In some cases, such as preparing the community to respond to a wildfire, his work was highly visible. In other instances, though, McComb is believed to have worked behind the scenes on sensitive matters, addressing topics like security. McComb also brought a military background to the position. He joined the Navy after graduating from high school and remained in the service for 30 years before retiring as a lieutenant commander in 2016. Dave Thacker, who is the city’s chief building official, is serving as the acting emergency manager. The municipal government is currently amid the hiring process for a permanent emergency manager. The timeline is not known. The recruitment is ongoing, and the permanent position is vacant, as wildfire season is approaching after a winter with snowfall that was far below average. Firefighting itself is not a function of the municipal government, but officials at the Marsac Building, including the emergency program manager, typically have a role in the preparation for wildfire season. The Park City Council on Thursday, meanwhile, is scheduled to consider a resolution that would prohibit people from using fireworks, open flames and ignition sources through late in the fall.
