(KRON) -- Detectives investigating a string of dozens of car tire slashings in the North Bay have made an arrest in the case, police announced Monday. The Santa Rosa Police Department said approximately 50 vehicles were vandalized in the Railroad Square district overnight. Keith Johnson, a 32-year- old transient from Santa Rosa, was taken into custody and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for felony vandalism after being identified as the suspected serial tire slasher. Investigators reviewed surveillance cameras in the area to develop a suspect description. Johnson, who matched the description, was later found in the garage of a residence in the 500 block of East Jasmine Circle actively slashing tires with a knife, Santa Rosa PD said. Arriving officers detained Johnson and located several knives in his possession, as well as identification that did not belong to the suspect and narcotic paraphernalia, according to authorities. Earlier this month, on April 16, Johnson pleaded no contest to possession of a concealed dirk or dagger and was sentenced to one year of probation. Johnson also faces counts of felony burglary, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, possession of another person’s personal identifying information and violation of probation. Police are urging anyone who sustained damage to their vehicles and has not been in contact with an officer or detective to call 707-528-5222 and reference case number 26-4334. ...read more read less
