A man is dead following a shootout with Warrenville police on Interstate 88 in DeKalb County Monday, Illinois State Police said.Naperville police located a car wanted in connection with a missing person who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis around 3 p.m., state police said in a stat ement. The man in the car near IL-59 and North Aurora Road allegedly showed a gun and fled.Warrenville police then found the vehicle and began following it, and the driver continued to flash the gun, police said. The cars got onto Interstate 88, and Illinois State Police became involved, as state highways are under state police jurisdiction.The driver reached DeKalb County and police deployed spike strips to deflate the car's tires near Keslinger Road outside Maple Park. The driver and a Warrenville police officer fired shots, and the driver was struck. Officers tried life-saving measures before he was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.No other injuries were reported.Illinois State Police's Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the Warrenville police officer's use of force, and the Division of Internal Investigation is investigating state police involvement in the incident.
