As a newly appointed Indiana congr essman takes on a powerful role in Washington, voters back home say rising costs—not politics—are their top concern. Shreve says he’s optimistic about federal funding for a new Roudebush VA hospital as he joins the House Appropriations Committee, which is now shaping the 2027 budget. He says his priorities include supporting Indiana, protecting national security, and carefully weighing proposed cuts—like a heating assistance program used by thousands of Hoosiers. Shreve also called for congressional involvement in decisions about U.S. action in Iran and is pushing a bill to boost domestic mining of critical minerals to reduce reliance on countries like China. Meanwhile, voters say affordability is the biggest issue heading into the primary. Rising rent, utilities, and everyday costs are forcing some Hoosiers to work multiple jobs.
