It has been nearly 20 days since we last had measurable rain in Charlotte, but tomorrow looks to break that streak. A cold front to our west is producing scattered showers and storms. This system looks to survive long enough to impact our Saturday forecast across the area. The day will star t sunny and warm with temperatures near 60 in the Piedmont at sunrise. By the afternoon, we reach the mid to upper 80s with increasing clouds and isolated showers. By Saturday evening, showers and storms become more widespread. Most of us will see at least a few raindrops, with others seeing embedded downpours. A few of these storms could also produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. Rain won’t last long, and we look to be dry once again by Sunday morning, but temperatures will be cool with many in the upper 50s. Behind this rain, cooler and drier air will funnel in, with Sunday highs looking to be closer to 70 with cloud cover having a big impact on temperatures. The rest of next week looks to finally bring more consistent rain chances as we try to shake one of the driest years to date on record. Wednesday looks to feature a good chance for rain, as well as another chance by the end of next week. While this won’t eliminate the drought, it should help to stabilize the situation. Regardless, a statewide burn ban remains in effect for both Carolinas until further notice! Tonight: Partly cloudy. Low: 59°. Wind: SW 5-10 Saturday: PM showers/storms. High 86°.
