Miners boys soccer Head Coach Anthony DiCicco felt optimistic about his team’s opening month to the season, March. Park City went 5-4 and was set to open April with two road contests before their spring break last week.  DiCicco knew how important it would be to enter the break on a high note . That’s exactly what his team did.  While the Miners fell 4-2 to rival Wasatch on April 9, they played a dominant second half to take down Cottonwood 4-0 on April 10. Senior Max Schneider led Park City with two goals and an assist in the April 10 victory.  The Miners were able to hit the reset button, looking for a little rest and relaxation. DiCicco is hopeful his team will be close to fully healthy for the final stretch of the season. He has had teams in the past struggle to maintain positive momentum following spring break.  “Certainly going into the spring break and ending this period of our season on a high note was important,” DiCicco said. “Max had a great game, with an assist and two goals. Obviously not that easy of a thing to do playing Thursday and then having the back-to-back game on Friday.” DiCicco continued, lauding his entire team for their efforts on April 10, “Really proud of the boys for their investment and their response on Friday.” The head ball coach would like to see his team play with some increased consistency and discipline down the stretch. He feels as the Cottonwood win and recent run of play have put them in an excellent position to have success come playoff time. Park City is taking on East upon return from the break Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. on the road.  The Miners fell to East 1-0 at home March 27. DiCicco is excited that his team could enter Tuesday’s game and display that they’ve learned the lessons from the earlier loss. East’s game-winner in the March 27 contest came in the second half.  “Anytime you come off the break, it’s a balance of being rested, hopefully as close to fully healthy as we possibly can be and making sure that none of the momentum is lost, which isn’t always an easy thing,” DiCicco said. “With this group, as they continue to go through their process and invest in themselves and each other, I have a high degree of confidence that the leadership will have them in the right mindset for us to not only compete against East but be better than we were the last time we saw them.” Park City will face Murray at 7 p.m. Friday on the road to wrap up their four-game road trip. The Miners are set to take on Juan Diego Catholic at 3:30 p.m. Monday in their second-to-last regular season home game. Including Tuesday’s East game, the team has six remaining regular season contests.  Park City is ranked 13th in 4A heading into Tuesday’s game. The top-16 teams in the classification get to host a playoff game, with the top eight receiving first round byes. The Miners last state title came in 2009 as the second of back-to-back championships and the fourth in six seasons.  “We have to believe that we are capable of special things, and we’ve demonstrated those qualities at times,” DiCicco said. “We’ve also made mistakes that have cost us some games, and that’s okay as long as we learn from those experiences, so that we’re not putting ourselves in similar situations as we get down to the business end of the season.” The post Miners boys soccer team entered spring break on winning note appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
