Did Secretary Markwayne Mullin win over 60% of the vote in his most recent Senate election?
Apr 21, 2026
Yes.
Recently appointed Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin won 61.8% of the vote in the 2022 special senatorial election to fill the seat vacated by the retirement of former Sen. Jim Inhofe.
Mullin received more than 700,000 votes, about 1.75 times the number that t
he next closest candidate, former U.S. Rep. Kendra Horn, received. 30,000 of the votes Mullin received were absentee mail-in votes.
Like all voting in Oklahoma, absentee ballots require proof of identity. Absentee voters must include with their ballot their voter registration identification number as well as a notarized affidavit.
The SAVE Act, which recently passed in the House, would obstruct voting by mail by requiring documentary proof of citizenship in-person to complete registration; for most, that would mean a passport or birth certificate.
According to the Center for American Progress, 53% of Americans have a valid passport. In Oklahoma, that drops to less than one-third of citizens.
