WASHINGTON, DC – Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned as U.S. labor secretary amid a widening misconduct investigation, ending a turbulent tenure in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet. The former Oregon congresswoman stepped down Monday as the Labor Department’s inspector general neared the end of a probe into allegations that included abuse of power, an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate and misuse of government resources. The White House said Chavez-DeRemer will leave to take a job in the private sector, while Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling will serve as acting head of the agency. Chavez-DeRemer, who represented Oregon’s 5th Congressional District from 2023 to 2025, was appointed labor secretary in 2025 with bipartisan support.
