TONIGHT
A few sprinkles may linger early this evening, then skies gradually clear and the air turns sharply colder overnight. Lows fall to the lower 30s, with a northwest breeze around 10 mph early easing late. Frost becomes a bigger issue toward daybreak, and som
e of the colder northern spots are under a freeze warning, so sensitive plants need protection tonight.
TOMORROW
Bright sun returns after the frosty start, and while the afternoon is quiet it still leans cool for late April. Highs top out in the upper 50s, with a light north wind around 5 mph. It is a good looking day for errands and outdoor work, but the morning chill will hang with us for a while before the sun wins out.
TOMORROW NIGHT
Mostly clear and seasonably chilly, with lows settling into the lower 40s. Winds stay light, then begin to turn from the south southeast late at around 5 mph. It is another calm night, but not nearly as cold as the one before, and that sets the stage for a much bigger temperature jump by Tuesday afternoon.
TUESDAY
This is the big flip in the pattern. Mostly sunny skies and a stronger southwest breeze push highs well into the mid 70s, with gusts up to 30 mph at times. After the frosty start to the week, Tuesday will feel much more like late spring, and it looks like one of the better afternoons of the stretch for being outside.
TUESDAY NIGHT
The first storm chance of the week arrives late. Expect a mix of clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing at times overnight, with lows near 60 and a southwest wind around 10 mph. This does not look like an all night washout, but it is enough of a signal to keep an eye on anything outdoors late in the evening or overnight.
WEDNESDAY
Warm air holds in place, and a few storms may still be around early, with another slight chance later in the day. Even with that, much of Wednesday looks partly to mostly sunny and quite warm, with highs in the mid 70s and a west southwest breeze around 10 mph. There should still be plenty of dry time for plans, but it is not quite as clean as Tuesday.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Skies turn mostly clear again and it stays mild for April standards. Lows only slip into the upper 50s, with a light south breeze around 5 mph. Quiet weather settles back in for the night, and there are no major travel concerns.
THURSDAY
The warmest day of this run arrives with a mostly sunny sky and highs near 80, maybe a touch above in warmer spots. A south southwest breeze around 10 mph, with a few gusts near 20 mph, keeps the air moving but the overall feel is very warm and almost early summer like by afternoon.
THURSDAY NIGHT
The dry stretch starts to loosen up a bit late. Partly cloudy skies hold for much of the night, then a chance for showers and thunderstorms begins to build after 2 a.m. Lows stay mild, around the lower 60s, with a south wind around 10 mph and a few higher gusts.
7 DAY FORECAST
The week starts with a real chill tonight into Monday morning, including frost for most of central Indiana and freeze concerns north, but the recovery is fast. Highs climb from the upper 50s Monday into the mid 70s Tuesday and Wednesday, then near 80 Thursday. The main rain and storm chances in this run are Tuesday night into part of Wednesday, with a stronger and broader late week signal arriving Friday into the weekend. Right now the warmer trend looks high confidence, while the exact timing and coverage of the midweek storm chances still carries a little lower confidence.
