Dallas Police say officers intervened to prevent a potentially dangerous situation after a student arrived at an unofficial “Senior Skip Day” gathering on Friday with multiple firearms. Police said officers were sent to Danieldale Park in Southern Dallas after a social media post promoting th e event drew nearly 400 students from several school districts to a park in the 500 block of West Wheatland Road. Undercover officers were already in the area monitoring the gathering when they reported seeing someone carrying a firearm. According to police, the person was seen getting into a vehicle and leaving the park. The Dallas Police Department’s Air-1 helicopter tracked the vehicle as it made multiple laps around the area while additional officers were called to the park. Officers later pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as 17‑year‑old Ziquavious Hughes Bigger, police said. Investigators found multiple firearms inside the vehicle, including an AR‑style pistol with an obscured serial number. Police also located marijuana, according to the department. Because of what police described as a credible threat, officers ordered all students to leave the park and secured the area as a precaution. No injuries were reported. Hughes Bigger was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, tampering with identification and possession of marijuana under two ounces. A passenger in the vehicle, 18‑year‑old Jaquelinn Woods, was also charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces, police said. Authorities said the gathering was not a school‑sponsored event. Dallas Police credited the presence of undercover officers and aerial surveillance with allowing them to quickly intervene and prevent a more serious outcome. The investigation remains ongoing. ...read more read less
