OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- An East Bay family is continuing its desperate search for Amy Hillyard, an Oakland resident and local business owner who has been missing for nearly a month. The 52-year-old mother and wife was reported missing on Wednesday, March 25.
Family, friends and community members
have organized search efforts to find her. A search group recently gathered in front of Farley's Coffee Shop, which Hillyard owns, for a second coordinated search. Hillyard's husband, Chris Hillyard, last saw her on that Wednesday in March after dropping her off at a BART station for a therapy appointment at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek.
Husband speaks out as search for missing Oakland woman Amy Hillyard continues
Alexandra, Hillyard's sister, describes her as a kind-hearted, determined, passionate and amazing woman.
"Amy is the most... kindhearted, determined, passionate, amazing woman and there is really no one like her," Alexandra said.
Alexandra noted her personal commitment to the search.
"I make list of where I think she could be, I wake up every morning thinking about it and go to bed every night thinking about it so I'm out there in my mind, heart and physically yes," Alexandra said.
Chris Hillyard reported that Hillyard texted him that afternoon after returning home from her appointment, which was the last time he heard from her. When Chris Hillyard returned home around 3 p.m., he noticed the back door was open, their dog was not in its crate and Hillyard's phone and belongings were left on the counter.
Chris Hillyard immediately called police and filed a missing person report.
"I knew something was wrong at that point," he said.
Chris and Hillyard have been married for 22 years and have two college-aged daughters. Hillyard stated that their daughters are currently home from school after taking the quarter off, describing the situation as overwhelming for them.
"We have two college aged daughters that are home from school right now, they took the quarter off, it's been overwhelming, they just want their mommy back," Chris Hillyard said.
Police have reported no signs of foul play in the investigation, which remains ongoing. Chris Hillyard conveyed the family's deep emotional toll.
"This has been devastating for our whole family," Chris Hillyard said.
Search groups have been focusing on areas Hillyard frequented, including hiking trails and farmers markets. A $10,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to her safe return.
Anyone with information regarding Hillyard's whereabouts is urged to contact Oakland Police.
