HENRICO COUNTY, VA. (WRIC) -- Fair Oaks Elementary School in Henrico County will celebrate its 100th anniversary in early May with a centennial event, according to school officials. The Fair Oaks community will be hosting a free centennial celebration at the school, located at 201 Jennings Road in the Highland Springs area of Henrico, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, according to an April 16 press release. The theme of the event will be “Moving forward while looking back," and will celebrate a century of community, education and tradition. Activities and food will be free and open to the public. Special guests will include Del. Delores L. McQuinn and Varina District supervisor Tyrone Nelson, officials said. The school was founded in 2016 as Fair Oaks School, a four-room schoolhouse established through the Rosenwald program. The current brick building was built in 1951, with the school fully integrated in the fall of 1970. In March 2026, the Virginia House of Delegates passed House Bill 465 commending Fair Oaks Elementary School for its service to the community.  For more information, contact the Fair Oaks Commemorative Committee at [email protected] ...read more read less
