RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Public Schools (RPS) superintendent Jason Kamras said he has "taken every necessary step accordingly" after a video surfaced showing a school employee apparently biting a child in their care. On Wednesday, April 15, Kamras took to social media to say he is aware of the "disturbing video" that has surfaced online that allegedly showed a school employee at Fairfield Court Elementary School on Phaup Street biting the hand of a child, but said he could not comment on personnel matters. "I am absolutely horrified by this, as superintendent and as a parent," he said in part. "I want to assure our families and the public that I simply will not tolerate any such behavior at RPS, and I've taken every necessary step accordingly." The 58-second video circulating on social media Wednesday morning appears to show an adult walking outside Fairfield Court Elementary School holding the hands of two children. The woman then leans over one of the children, opens her mouth and appears to bite a child's hand. In the video, the child can be heard crying. It is unclear when the video was recorded, who was involved, and who filmed the video. "Our motto is to 'teach, lead, and serve with love; and we failed in the most extreme sense to live up to that with this incident," Kamras said in a release. In the statement, Kamras apologized to the student, their family and the entire RPS community for this "breach of trust." He added that he is determined to ensure it does not happen again. ...read more read less
