er Drew Morros in an Instagram post. “It’s been a great run, and I have been so lucky to have had great folks on both sides of the bar for the past nine years.”The statement focused on the positive, calling attention to a slideshow of photos showing “sweet people smiling in this sweet little place.” Although no reason was given for the closure, the post did suggest there was a rental dispute.“Landlords gonna landlord,” wrote Morros.Morros, along with Roberta Marques of Crossroads Kitchen and prolific San Antonio barman Danny Delgado, opened Lowcountry in November 2016, the name reflecting the pier-and-beam construction of its building.The cocktail menu featured original drinks, like the Bourbon-based Jam Jar, but many regulars ordered classics like Old Fashioneds and martinis — or just a beer and a shot.The large back patio was a calling card, often hosting activities like deejays. Like any good Southern home, it became popular because of its easy hospitality.Lowcountry is the latest in a rash of closures in changing Southtown. In recent weeks, Brick at Blue Star, the Filling Station Tap Room, and Near Dark have bowed out as new tenants like La Panadería are moving in.
