Invitations for disaster on Little Kate
Apr 15, 2026
I want to weigh in on Park City’s plan for a multi-use pathway along Little Kate Road in Park Meadows.
I’ve enjoyed living in the Racquet Club for almost 10 years. My townhouse deck edges out close to Little Kate. When I’m home, I can see residents using the sidewalk and street — wal
king and running, pushing baby carriages, riding their bikes, walking their dogs. And I occasionally see the kids reveling in doing wheelies on their souped-up bikes, sometimes, unfortunately, getting too close to little kiddos and pets on leashes, as they weave in and out. And I see the cars on Little Kate going 40 mph in the 20 mph zone, day and night, as well.
When I think about combining all of this active (and speedy) humanity in a 12-foot wide corridor that manages two-way traffic, it makes me pause. You assume that everyone will behave, be polite and follow the rules, just as you assumed drivers would honor a 20 mph speed limit.
But get one person with a dog going one way, a jogger going the other way, and a youngster on an e-bike careening around them, and then throw in a toddler on a strider bike who isn’t quite sure which side of the path he should be on …. That’s just one example of a potential calamity. There are lots of other scenarios like this in this proposed crowded space that are invitations to disaster.
Parents with their child (or maybe two) on the back of their bikes pedaling to school won’t be able to skirt a barking dog that an owner can’t quite control in such close proximity. Teens probably won’t stop barreling down the path at twice a reasonable speed. Is jamming all of this humanity into the proposed tight corridor a good idea?
If this project’s plans come to fruition, I am dubious of an always safe and considerate outcome. I respectfully request that Park City drops plans for a multi-use pathway project on Little Kate.
