Credit: Mark Maziarz February 1, 1941 – March 25, 2026Chester “Chet” Maziarz was born outside Archangel, Russia, after his family fled Poland during World War II. With help from the Red Cross and Roman Catholic Church, he and his siblings were separated for safety, living in Iran, Pakistan , India, Tanzania, and England before immigrating to the United States. In a remarkable turn, his entire family was later reunited in Chicago, where they remained close throughout his life. In the early 1960s, Chet met Lillian Roguszczak while serving as a groomsman in a wedding. They married and later welcomed their son, Mark. Chet built a successful career in finance as a salesman, manager, and executive. Known for his sharp memory and genuine care for others, he formed lasting relationships with clients—many of whom became lifelong friends. His personable style even led to delivering stock reports on WBBM radio. Chet and Lillian created a warm, vibrant life in Chicago, filled with tennis, travel, gatherings, and deep ties to the Polish community. In retirement, they moved to Utah to be closer to family. What defined Chet most was how he made people feel. He was kind, attentive, and thoughtful—quick with a compliment or a small gesture of care. He loved staying connected, often clipping and mailing newspaper articles with handwritten notes when something reminded him of a friend. He brought joy and ease to those around him, especially children, who adored his playful spirit. Even in his later years, as his health declined, his gentle nature remained. He was often described simply as a “sweetheart.” Chet was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian; his son, Mark (Mary Beth); his grandchildren, Scout and Foster; his sister, Krystyna (Jan) Derecki; his brother, Alfred (Barbara) Maziarz; and many loving relatives and friends. Born in hardship, Chet created a life defined by warmth, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed. memorial will be held at Covington Senior Living (904 Southfield Rd, Heber City, UT) on Tuesday, April 21st from 4–6pm. All are welcome.
