SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A San Francisco grandmother pleaded no contest to one count of felony child endangerment on Monday after being found passed out drunk in her car in the middle of a San Mateo roadway in July 2024, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office announced. According to prosec utors, her three young grandchildren were also inside the car, wearing soiled and tattered clothing. Two other counts of child endangerment against Gabrilla Ann Sigala, 60, were dismissed in the case, as were charges of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, driving while privilege was suspended for a previous DUI conviction, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The child endangerment no contest plea on Monday was conditioned on receiving no state prison and a maximum of 45 days of county jail, the DA’s office said. Trial set for Half Moon Bay attempted murder case On July 21, 2025, Sigala pleaded no contest in the case to misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol with a 0.08% BAC. She was sentenced to six days in county jail and three years of probation for this conviction and was required to complete three months of a first offender program. San Mateo Police Department officers found Sigala passed out in her driver’s seat with the car’s engine still on just after noon on July 20, 2024, according to prosecutors. The DA’s office said there was an open bottle of vodka under her thigh and two empty bottles in the car. Sigala’s three grandchildren -- ages 2, 3, and 5 -- were inside the car. They “wore no shoes and their clothing was tattered, dirty and smelled of feces,” according to prosecutors. Investigators learned there had been 39 callouts to child protective services in San Francisco for reported child neglect, the DA’s office said. Three hours after officers detained Sigala, she had a blood alcohol level of 0.18%. Sentencing for the felony child endangerment conviction is set for June 15. ...read more read less
