SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Federal agents raided the Texas home of Daniel Moreno-Gama on Monday.  He is the man authorities arrested on Friday, after he was alleged to have thrown a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s Russian Hill home.  Federal court documents show surveillance photos pr osecutors say show the suspect at the residence and later at OpenAI headquarters, where they say he is alleged to have threatened to burn the place down and kill everyone inside. At a news conference Monday afternoon, federal and San Francisco law enforcement officers came together to make it clear this was a planned attack “The defendant is alleged to have traveled across state lines with the intent to both target an individual and a major technology company," said Matt Cobo, the FBI SF Acting Special Agent in Charge. “This was not spontaneous. This was planned, targeted and extremely serious.” Federal prosecutors have charged Moreno-Gama with possession of an unregistered firearm, and damage and destruction of property by explosives, but more serious charges could follow. “If the evidence shows that Mr. Moreno Gama executed these attacks to change public policy or to coerce government or other officials, we will treat this as an act of domestic terrorism, and together with our partners, prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law,” said Missakian. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has charged the suspect with two counts of attempted murder and attempted arson, among other charges.  She also cautioned those who have a strong feeling about AI to turn down the rhetoric. “In no way should we be at the point where a man could have lost his life over differences of opinion and concerns,” Jenkins said. Moreno-Gama will have his first appearance in the San Francisco Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon. ...read more read less
