Former NFL receiver and current UFL Head Coach for the Columbus Aviators, Tedd Ginn Jr., was arrested in Tarrant County on Saturday afternoon for Driving While Intoxicated. His arrest came just one day before the team he coaches was scheduled to play. The Columbus Aviators said they are aware of the incident and are gathering more information in a released statement: “We are aware of an incident involving Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. over the weekend and are in the process of gathering more information. Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will handle the head coaching duties for the Aviators game on Sunday.” The Aviators went on to face the Dallas Renegades on Sunday, falling in the matchup. The loss leaves Columbus winless this season at 0-3. Ginn apologized in a statement following the arrest: “I want to address the situation that took place over the weekend. I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve always believed in accountability and now it’s my turn to live that standard. I understand the responsibility that comes with being a leader role model, and falling short of this is not something I take lightly. I’m committed to learning from this, making better decisions, and earning back the trust of my players, our organization, and the fans. I appreciate the support of my family and the United Football League, and I respect the process as it moves forward. My focus now is on taking the necessary steps to grow from this and represent the Columbus Aviators and this community the right way.” Ginn was hired as head coach of the Aviators in December. Before transitioning to coaching, he played 14 seasons in the NFL. This story was originally reported for broadcast by NBC DFW.
