INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man was sentenced to 62 years in prison for a September 2024 murder according to a Friday release from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. James Grossnickle was convicted of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent Felon following a thre e day jury trial. On September 4, 2024, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispactched to a home on South Gray Street on the east side of Indianapolis after friends of the victim found Craig Jacobs dead in a bedroom. Police determined Jacobs had multiple gunshot wounds and had been dead for some time. Investigators say that people at the scene told them that Jacobs had been missing for several days. They became concerned after Grossnickle made comments about shooting Jacobs. Police say those comments prompted Jacobs’s friends to check on him by breaking down his bedroom door and they found his body. Grossnickle said, in a interview later with police, that he had shot Jacobs multiple times until the gun jammed. After the killing, he locked the bedroom door and screwed it shut.
