An East Bay family is asking for the public’s help in finding a Berkeley man and former San Jose State University football player who disappeared last weekend.
Hadari Darden, 28, was last seen at the Skyline Plaza shopping center in Daly City. How he ended up there and what led to his disappear
ance is troubling his loved ones.
“I don’t know how to feel right now,” Darden’s mother, Hanifea Click, said. “I’m angry, I’m sad, I’m hurt. I just want to find my son.”
Darden was last heard from on Saturday after leaving his Berkeley home. Click said he made it to a hair appointment in Oakland that afternoon but never returned and missed plans with family the next day.
Daly City police told the family that officers contacted Darden at the Skyline Plaza shopping center early Sunday morning while investigating a report of a suspicious person.
“They questioned him, they said he seemed normal, and they let my son walk off,” Click said. “It’s a concern for me for him to even be in this area right now. He doesn’t know anyone.”
Loved ones have spent time searching BART stations. Family members said Darden doesn’t have a car and has no ties to Daly City. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and green joggers and carrying an Army-colored backpack.
Click said her son recently had a change in behavior but has never disappeared before.
“I’ve been concerned about some things that I have noticed for some time now, and I’ve tried to talk to him and encourage therapy,” Click said.
Darden, a Kaiser employee, never showed up for work on Monday. Family members describe him as a hard worker and a loving big brother with a strong support system.
“He has love from the whole community, from his team members, college mates, teachers, coaches,” his uncle, Steven Jefferson, said. “Just everybody is looking for Hadari right now. We all love him and we want him home.”
