NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chairman Keith Pagano has resigned from the New Kent County School Board, prompting a special election for his replacement in November. At the April 7 special meeting, superintendent Brian Nichols told the board that Pagano has stepped down from his position. The resi gnation was due to a change in residency, where Pagano moved outside the district he's a representative of, District 1. "We're grateful for Mr. Pagano's service and leadership, and we thank him for his continued support of New Kent County Public Schools," Nichols said. Pagano was elected to the board after winning the general election on Nov. 7, 2023, according to county documents. His term began on Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2027. Nichols noted that two of Pagano's children are still attending the school district. District 4 representative Ron Vought was elected chairman shortly before the announcement. The board is accepting applications for the interim District 1 school board member position until a special election is held later this year for Pagano's replacement. Applicants can submit a letter of interest and a resume by 4 p.m. on April 13. The board will announce applicants and receive public comments on their qualifications at the April 13 meeting. ...read more read less
