A report from the National Weather Service was issued on Thursday at 11:58 a.m. for elevated fire danger until 5 p.m. for Jefferson County."The combination of dry fine fuels, southerly wind gusts of to 20 to 30 mph, and relative humidity values as low as 25 to 35% will contribute to an elevated risk for fire spread across the lower elevations of Jefferson county this afternoon. The annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts.
