Woman accused of assaulting state trooper during stolen vehicle investigation

A woman has been arrested and charged after police said she assaulted a Delaware state trooper during a stolen vehicle investigation.
According to Delaware State Police, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, around 6:15 p.m., troopers responded to the Christiana Mall after receiving a report about a stol
en vehicle.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed an individual’s Toyota Camry was stolen and was later tracked to a residence on Jamison Street in Newark. Troopers responded to the area and found the stolen vehicle.
While on scene, police said, troopers saw a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Rebecca Weatherly, of Newark, enter the vehicle and remove personal items from inside.
As troopers approached Weatherly and attempted to take her into custody, police said she resisted arrest and struck a trooper, causing non-life-threatening injuries.
Weatherly was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.
While searching Weatherly, police added that troopers found the keys to the stolen Toyota.
Weatherly is now facing felony charges of assault second-degree injury of a law enforcement officer, receiving stolen property valued over $1,500, and resisting arrest with force or violence.
Police said Weatherly was taken to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $3,500 cash bond.
