Adult Children of Aging Parents hold first meeting INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A new nonprofit dedicated to supporting adult children of aging parents will hold its first educational meeting next Tuesday on the north side of Indianapolis. Adult Children of Aging Parents will meet from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday at The Haverstick, 9111 Haverstick Rd. The nonprofit will offer tips and tools for adults who are navigating the challenges of caring for aging loved ones. Knute Rotto, owner of Senior Care Authority, highlighted ACAP’s mission during a visit to Daybreak on Thursday. “It’s an educational platform that will allow those adult children who are caregivers, or maybe soon-to-be caregivers, the opportunity to learn about all the different senior resources that are available in central Indiana,” Rotto said. Jennifer Buddenbaum, ACAP’s marketing director and volunteer coordinator, detailed the scope of Tuesday’s meeting. “It’s going to be a 30,000-foot view of what you need to know,” Budenbaum said, emphasizing the need for preparation before a sudden health event like a fall or flu. The meeting will cover “definitions and questions you should ask when the time comes if you need to find those resources that are out there.” The meetings are open and free to everyone, Buddenbaum says, but the target audience is adult children. “We know that those individuals are typically the ones who are stuck between caregiving their kids, their careers, and then suddenly, they have aging parents who are trying to figure out what they need to do next.” Buddenbaum also addressed the often difficult dynamic of adult children caring for their parents. “It is an interesting scenario to be in, and we’re trying to normalize those conversations because we’re all aging whether we want to believe it or not.” Tuesday’s meeting is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP in advance. Adult Children of Aging Parents plans to hold monthly meetings. Organizers are currently considering a potential streaming process for future sessions, though initial meetings will be in person.
