How ’bout this weather? A freeze warning is in place from metro New York City through Central and South Jersey, along with parts of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. Low temperatures Wednesday morning will be from the mid 20s to 32 degrees. Temperatures throughout the tri-state area will be below freezing on Wednesday morning. With an area-wide freeze expected, you may wonder why the entire tri-state area isn’t under a freeze warning.  The answer lies in the current state of the growing season in this region. The area under the freeze watch is well into the growing season by now.  Flowers and trees are in bloom and delicate plants may be at risk of damage or death if they aren’t protected from the cold – either by covering or moving to a warmer place. To the north, where temperatures will likely be colder than those in the Freeze Watch zone, the growing season is not yet underway, so the threat to new blooms isn’t as great. That said, trees and flowers are really starting to come to life around the New York City area, so even though a formal Freeze Watch may not be issued, if you’re concerned about any plants you have, you may want to consider taking precautions to protect them Tuesday night. Statistically, the average last freeze in New York City comes at the end of March. But it’s very common for it to be as late as the first or second week of April, so Tuesday night’s chill is nothing out of the ordinary.  Wednesday will be the coldest day of the week in the area, with temperatures trending up as we head into the weekend.  Right now, the weekend is looking spectacular, and above-normal temperatures are likely through next week. So, with any luck, this week’s freeze will be the last this spring for New York City! ...read more read less
