A former surgical technician is charged with stealing $2.5 million worth of medical supplies from a hospital in New Jersey and then reselling them in South Carolina, officials said Monday.
Marci M. Staub, 44, a former employee of Cooper University Health Care in Camden, allegedly impersonated a
medical supply vendor while selling the devices to a medical supply company, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said in a release.
She’s been charged with theft, receiving stolen property, distribution of prescription drugs and impersonation of a representative of a medical organization, the release said.
Prosecutors said detectives obtained financial records showing Staub received more than $427,000 in payments from reselling the items.
On Oct. 2, the hospital noticed that a large quantity of Medtronic Infuse bone graft devices and other supplies were missing, and that the hospital’s inventory did not match the documented amount of products recorded as used.
Cooper University Health Care told NBC News in a statement that it is cooperating with the investigation.
“As this is an active criminal investigation, Cooper University Health Care cannot comment beyond that we actively investigated this incident and reported it to law enforcement as soon as it was discovered, terminated the employee, and continue to cooperate with the investigation,” the hospital said in a statement. “Theft or any violation of the law will not be tolerated at Cooper.”

The release from Camden County Prosecutors said that hospital officials noticed they were refilling orders for the devices more frequently from December 2024 through July 2025, despite not seeing an increase in patient care that would account for the additional usage.
“During the investigation that followed, detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit reviewed surveillance footage from November to December 2025, showing Staub arriving at work with an empty bag and then leaving with it filled,” the release said.
In December, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office caught Staub leaving the hospital with medical supplies, prosecutors said.
Since then, she has been terminated from her role and has been remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility where she remains in custody. It is not clear if she has legal representation.
