(KRON) -- A Bay Area congressman has joined the chorus of those calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against President Donald Trump. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Fremont) took to X on Tuesday to decry Trump's social media post claiming a "whole civilization will die tonight" as unconstitutional.
"We n
eed to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump," Khanna posted. "Threatening war crimes is a blatant violation of our constitution and the Geneva Conventions."

"If the United States Congress has any life left in it, every member of Congress and senator must be calling for Trump's removal today based on the 25th Amendment," Khanna added in a video accompanying his post. "He's threatening the entire destruction of a civilization."
"This is a morale crime. It is a war crime," Khanna added. "We need to be demanding that Congress convene today, and we need to be invoking the 25th Amendment."
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) speaks to reporters outside a Department of Justice facility in Washington, D.C., after reviewing documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Khanna joins a growing bipartisan chorus of voices calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against Trump. Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), once one of the president's staunchest supporters, is among them.
"25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on American," Greene tweeted. "We cannot kill an entire civilization."

Adopted after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the 25th Amendment establishes a procedure for replacing or declaring a president unable to discharge their duties, either from mental or physical incapacitation.
In order for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet would have to declare the president unable to discharge his duties. Were the 25th Amendment to be invoked in this case, Vice President JD Vance would assume the powers of the presidency.
