An investigation is underway after, officials said, police officers killed a 75-year-old man in a shooting in West Philadelphia on Tuesday morning.
NBC10’s SkyForce10 captured images of police around 7:30 a.m., placing tape at a scene along the 5400 block of Webster Street in West Philadelphia
after the reported shooting.
In talking to members of the press at the scene, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said, the incident happened just after 7 a.m. when a pair of officers responded to a call for a person with a weapon on that block.
“When they arrived, one of the officers exited the vehicle and approached a male on the porch in the 5400 block. There was very quickly a confrontation between the two. The male had a firearm. There were shots fired during that confrontation and the male was struck one time,” said Vanore.
The 75-year-old man involved in this incident, Vanore said, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced at about 7:33 a.m.
He said that, early investigation shows that the man fired one time and a female police officer returned fire one time, as well.
No officers were injured in this incident, he said.
Vanore said the officers involved were wearing body cameras that were turned on and investigators still need to review that footage.
An investigation into this incident is underway, and Vanore said, officers are still getting statements from individuals who witnessed the incident.
This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
