Braun celebrates utility costs bill INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Gov. Mike Braun on Monday held a ceremonial signing of a new law aimed at lowering energy costs and holding utilities accountable for Hoosiers. The measure, signed into law Feb. 26 by the Republican governor, requires perform ance-based ratemaking, a multiple-year rate plan, and transparency when companies request rate increases. The law also bans shutoffs from June 1 through Sept. 23, offering relief during the hottest months. Following last week’s utility hearing, Braun praised the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) for prioritizing ratepayers but criticized utilities for defending high rates. Under the new law, Indiana Michigan Power plans a new rate case to lower residential bills. The IURC has started public listening sessions statewide, inviting people to share experiences to shape future decisions.
